Cartilage damage in joints is one of orthopedics’ most persistent unmet needs. The tissue does not regenerate on its own, current options such as microfracture and autologous chondrocyte implantation deliver only partial and often short-lived relief, and many patients eventually progress toward joint replacement.
Our portfolio company Hy2Care has built CartRevive®, an injectable hydrogel implant designed to address exactly this gap, and has just been selected for the 2026 Accelerator Cohort of MedTech Innovator, the world’s largest accelerator for medical technology companies. Hy2Care joins 65 companies chosen from 1,835 global applicants, placing it within the top 4 percent of those reviewed. The 65 cohort companies also form the inaugural MTI Index 2026, a new benchmark designed to quantify the growth, survival, and commercial traction of medical technology innovation and to make the MTI portfolio permanently discoverable by investors, health systems, and media.
For Hy2Care, this recognition arrives at a meaningful moment. Over the past few years the company has completed its First-in-Human and European pivotal clinical trial in 46 patients, and obtained both FDA Breakthrough Device designation and FDA IDE approval in the United States, positioning CartRevive® for the next phase of clinical and regulatory development on both sides of the Atlantic.
“Our selection for the MedTech Innovator Accelerator Cohort is something we are incredibly proud of. It reflects the hard work of the entire Hy2Care team and the growing recognition of the clinical potential of the CartRevive® hydrogel implant.”
Over the coming four months, Hy2Care will engage with MedTech Innovator’s ecosystem of strategics, clinicians, investors, and industry partners, with the program launching at the invitation-only Innovator Summit on June 2-4 in San Francisco and culminating in showcases at The MedTech Conference in Boston in October and the MedTech Strategist Innovation Summit in San Diego in November. MedTech Innovator alumni have collectively raised $12 billion in follow-on funding, achieved 63 acquisitions, and introduced 500+ products to the market, making it one of the most influential platforms in medical technology globally.
Congratulations to Leo Smit, Sanna Severins and the entire Hy2Care team on a well-deserved recognition.
